      Day 2
      Piz Bernina

Early in the morning, in headlamp light, we follow the hiking trail up to the moraine and over it down to the Pers Glacier. Under the spell of the mighty north wall pillars of Piz Palü we cross the Pers glacier to Gemsfreiheit. Soon we also reach the Fortezza ridge. In an easy climb up to II degrees we climb over the rocks and soon stand on the glacier plateau of Bellavista. At first slightly ascending and always looking at the Piz Bernina, we get closer and closer to our daily goal. Ascent of Piz Bernina via the Spalla Ridge and descent to the Italian Rifugio Marco e Rosa.

      Day 3
      Piz Palü traverse

We follow our tracks from the previous day over the Bellavista terrace and tackle the traverse of the three Palü peaks. Easy climbing up to grade II leads to Piz Spinas (west summit of Piz Palü), then in firn snow to the main summit of Piz Palü (3899m). From here, follow the ridge to the east summit and on to the winter ski depot. The further descent leads through the impressive Cambrena ice breaks to Fuorcla Trovat. Just before the Diavolezza, with its wonderful sun terrace, we face one last climb.
