On the hike along the south side of the Bernina Mountain, you will experience an extraordinarily beautiful and wildly romantic landscape as you walk. We roam through three cultural areas: Engiadin - the wonderful high valley of Romansh-speaking Switzerland, la Valmalenco - a side valley of the Valtellina (Italy) and la Val Poschiavo - a valley isolated and separated from the rest of the Svizzera Italiana.
Through forest and marshes we reach the Cavloc lake. Then it's steeper and steeper through the lonely Murettotal to the pass (2562 m). On a historical mule track we descend towards Alpe Oro. Then up again to Alpe Fora and on to the Longoni Hut CAI (Club Alpino Italiano).
The 4th part of the "Alta Via della Valmalenco" is today our way. High above the valley along the mountain ridge to Alpe Roggione, 2000 m. Continue to the Bocchel de Torno and via Dosso dei Vetti to Campo Franscia.
At the beginning we drive to the dam of the Lago di Gera and reach the top of the wall via a dizzying concrete ramp ( safe). We reach the Alpe Gembré on the lakeside path, partly carved into rock. The ascent to the Pass da Canfinal (2628 m) brings us back to Switzerland. On an elevated path we go high above the Val Poschiavo to Cavaglia.
The day begins with a visit to the glacier mills in the glacier garden. Then we take the train to Alp Grüm. We hike to Sassal Mason and further into the wide valley of the Bernina Pass, with a wonderful view of the Puschlav and the glacier world, which is within reach. Lago Bianco, the mountain lakes, the Cambrena glacier and the slowly meandering trains of the Bernina Express over alpine grasslands accompany us to the bottom station of the Diavolezza Gondola. Our hike ends at the Bernina-Diavolezza train stop and we take the train home individually.
