High Altitude Ski tour Forno Albigna
We will meet in Maloja. Today we will climb to the hut through the Forno valley. Past the picturesque Lägh da Cavloc we leave the tree line and reach the foothills of the Vadrec dal Forno. Soon we turn off and reach the Forno Hut across the large moraine. From the huts terrace we overlook the breathtaking Forno basin and already see our summit destinations for the next few days.
Early in the morning we ski down to the Forno Glacier, where we put on our skins and walk across the glacier into the valley. At the very back we turn right and climb between crevasses and under imposing rock faces up to Passo dal Cantun. It is not far from here to the Cima di Castello, whose summit is waiting for us with an enormous view and a wonderful panorama. The descent leads us to the rear end of the Albigna reservoir. A short climb brings us to the Capanna da l'Albigna and we look forward to a cosy evening in the winter room.
We leave the Albigna hut heading east. We have several possibilities to get back to the Forno Valley. We decide according to weather and conditions which direction to take. Take either the Pass da Casnil South or the Pass da Caciadur. If possible we can even take the summit of Caciadur.
A magnificent descent opposite the Forno hut leads us all the way down to the Forno glacier. Also today a return ascent to coffee and cake is waiting for us. One last time we can enjoy the tremendous panorama from the Huts terrace.
The final tour is another real highlight and leads us to the Pizzi dei Rossi. From here a wonderful descent to the Muretto Valley awaits us. Around lunch time we will arrive back in Maloja.
